I recently faced an issue restoring my WhatsApp chat history on a Volla Phone with microG. Even though I had copied the Databases and Media folders with the msgstore.db.crypt14 file into the correct path (Internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases/), WhatsApp did not show me the “Restore messages” prompt.
After some trial and error I found the solution:
Apparently, when microG is active, WhatsApp tries to connect to Google Drive (which is not fully supported), instead of using the local backup. With microG disabled, WhatsApp immediately detected my local backup and offered the restore option.
Steps that worked for me:
On the old phone, disable Google Drive backup and create a fresh local backup.
Copy both Databases (with msgstore.db.crypt14 or .crypt15) and Media folders to the new Volla Phone:
Internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases/
Internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/
Make sure the backup file is named exactly msgstore.db.crypt14 (or .crypt15).
Temporarily disable microG on the Volla.
Install WhatsApp (APK from the official website or APKMirror).
Verify phone number → now WhatsApp detects the local backup and shows the “Restore” option.
After restoring, microG can be enabled again.
This might help other Volla users who wonder why WhatsApp doesn’t detect their local backups.
