this was probably coming from a faulty wifi connection that stopped in the middle of a download and resulted in a corrupted file allocation table or whatever on the sd card
what i did is :
1- in opensuse > YaST > Partionner i deleted the partitions on the card and formatted the card
2- in gparted i made a low level formatting of the card
(maybe these 2 steps are redundant?)
3- with a more reliable wifi connection i made again the whole process as described in the wiki, and it went good
maybe there should be a more robust download process (like wget -c) in Volla Boot Manager as my usual wifi server works quite well in every day usage
anyhow Ubuntu Touch is now installed and working as expected
