VoLTE

Hello

Looking at the X* phone specifications:

https://volla.online/en/volla-phone-22/
and
https://volla.online/en/volla-phone-x23/

I see that X22 is specified in 'wireless connectivity' to not work with VoLTE, but there is no 'wireless connectivity' item in X23. I think to understand that because VoLTE does not seem to be supported by Ubports:

https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1335

VoLTE will not work even with X23 right ?

That's a pretty big deal because in my country the phone will be a brick in 2028 (I accept that we are pretty lucky because in other countries an Ubuntu Touch phone is *already* unable to accept and send phone calls, ie, Netherlands).

Re: VoLTE

As far as I know, these are the only information we have about VoLTE for Ubuntu Touch:

- A blog post dating back to July 23rd 2021 titled "First steps in VoLTE support for Ubuntu Touch"
https://ubports.com/pt/blog/ubports-blo ... touch-3768
As of October 2023, the post is on the 9th page, and that's where you can see the date of publication: https://ubports.com/pt/blog/ubports-blo ... s-1/page/9

- A job offer as VoLTE Developer from UBPorts Foundation
https://ubuntu-touch.io/en_GB/jobs/deta ... eveloper-1

I also remember stumbling on some contributors mentioning that anyone who can and is willing to give a hand would be appreciated.

Re: VoLTE

Hello, I'm still interested in getting a phone with Ubuntu Touch *and* Volte (4G telephony in other words)

Nothing has changed in the pages I linked to.

However, while reading about another (competing) product announce, I noticed they got Volte somewhat working for a pure Linux phone.

Soooo. I said to myself 'how comes that Ubuntu Touch can't do it ? it's all open source no ?'
And lo and behold, this is announced on the ubports web site:

https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/user ... volte.html

Is no one is interested in actually informing potential customers of this 'fact' ? is it officially supported by Volla ? or not ?

Thanks.

Re: VoLTE

I don't know about official support but I bought a Quintus with Ubuntu Touch preinstalled. It shows the VoLTE indicator in the wireless settings page and I can start and receive mobile calls here in Germany.

Re: VoLTE

Thanks @haagch, do you have any advice about this post:

https://forums.ubports.com/post/89111

it may depend on the phone hardware and the provider of course.

Re: VoLTE

Hello

this will be my last post on this subject, because I have now the final answer.

VoLTE is supported by Ubuntu Touch on many of the (few) supported phones. It's supported (according to the Ubuntu Touch forum at least) on all Volla phones at least when used in Europe.

It is working on the phone I finally bought (not a Volla phone - the lack of a removable battery combined with 5G support at the time I decided on the buy was the main argument, it could have been otherwise if the most recent Volla model had been available at the time).

As of the call ringing, on the last stable version as of now (24.04-1.3) it depends on the provider, it may work or not depending on the person you are calling.

If using the last instable version (26.04-1.x preview) having a reliable call ring *is* working in all cases provided the chipset is Qualcomm. That's yet not working currently for Volla phones.
