Help! Volla Plinius stuck in bootloop

Hello,

Volla Plinius with Ubuntu Touch is stuck in a dreaded bootloop. Holding power+volume up does not go into recovery mode (as per faq?). Right now would be nice to know how to stop the bootloop if possible.

Regarding why: I think I buggered the apt packages by installing build-essential, gcc, and some other utilities, which updated base glib to maybe some incompatible version for the services needed to boot.

Any help appreciated.

I did find the way to go to recovery, but the device is not reachable over usb in recovery / fastboot mode for some reason. Could it be pogopins are the main usb or something? Currently want to figure out how to do a fix without factory reset (which I assume nukes everything).

Welp, PEBKAC. Fastboot now works, maybe it was the cable.
